Any band that can break successfully into the notorious US market is guaranteed to be a force to be reckoned with. Having done what even Robbie Williams had trouble doing, German pop band Tokio Hotel’s success is hardly a fluke.
The Band was formed in 2001 when vocalist Bill Kaulitz , together with his twin brother guitarist Tom, roped in bassist Georg Listing and drummer Gustav Schafer and started performing for small crowds in their salt-mining village hometown, Magdeburg at the tender age of 10.
From performing at cozy club gigs for the beer-guzzling crowd to commanding a 500,000 strong crowd at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, the pop-rockers have certainly come a long way. After the runway success of their debut album Scream in 2008, Tokio Hotel has gone 10 times platinum, scored 4 #1 singles and performed sold-out arenas and stadium across Europe. Their latest coup: Best New Artist VMA from MTV 2008.
The band is ready to take on the world literally with their second English album Humanoid, which features more electronic sounds. The band will be touring Europe in late February 2010 and will be working with fashion label DQUARED for the tour.
It is a good thing the band decided to change their original Devilish to Tokio Hotel, as a nod to their favourite city and constant touring, for they are definitely going places with their unique mix of electro-pop with a dash or rock.
