The StarTwo: Made for a Riot

Another round of Tokio Hotel plus Katy Perry and Wonder Girls for MTV World Stage next month.

Tokio Hotel again, you ask? You bet. The German glam rock act, which played a promo show in Malaysia early last month, returns to town as part of the international music showcase MTV World Stage.

The venue and big date? It’s Sunway Lagoon Resort, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, on July 31. Block out the diary.

The excitement is definitely as high as Bill Kaulitz’s mohawk and the teenage riot that trails this rock group for upcoming edition of MTV World Stage here – especially with the addition of super sexy American singer Katy Perry and the steaming hot South Korean girl group Wonder Girls on the bill.

Perry’s current single California Gurls from her upcoming third album Teenage Dreams debuted at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 music charts in the United States, and is currently fast climbing up the local radio charts. The catchy song features rapper Snoop Dogg.

Meanwhile, after their successful US tour with the Jonas Brothers last year, Wonder Girls are back with a new album called 2 Different Tears. The sophomore effort contains English and Chinese versions of the group’s Korean hit singles, as well as new material. And yes, everyone’s favourite kitschy song, Nobody, is also on the album.

Wedged between skinny androgynous German rockers and sexed-up pop vixens, this MTV-endorsed event returns to Sunway Lagoon Resort next month with young music fans as their target audience. The outdoor concert series, which made its debut at the same venue last year, will also feature the usual token local act – Bunkface.

But just like Estranged last year, Bunkface is hardly a footnote on this MTV list. The AIM-award winning band has its debut album Phobia Phoney to take to the masses and with tunes like Situasi, Revolusi, Prom Queen and Soldier, this Klang, Selangor-raised outfit looks set to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the big stars.

Tokio Hotel, regarded as the headlining draw, will be the buzzworthy name (from Facebook to Twitter and beyond) while Katy Perry and Wonder Girls will be making their live debuts here.

“There’s nothing like the energy of fans enjoying live music from some of the world’s most popular recording artistes. That is what MTV World Stage Live in Malaysia is all about,” said Indra Suharjono, executive vice president/ managing director, MTV Networks North and South-East Asia in a media release.

MTV World Stage Live In Malaysia 2010 is anticipating a crowd of over 15,000 fans. You can obtain passes at worldstage.mtvasia.com from now until July 17.
