Wet and Wild at The World Stage

The mood of 15,000 fans was upbeat even as the rain continued to pour during the MTV World Stage Live 2010 show. Indeed, it seemed that nothing was going to take away the excitement of the day: people had line up outside Sunway Lagoon as early as noon when the concert doors only opened at four!

Organised by Hong Leong and XPax fans were treated to the music of popular acts such as local favourite Bunkface, the oh-so-hot Wonder Girls, German glam-rock sensation Tokio Hotel, and last but definitely not least, the very sexy Katy Perry.

Bunkface opened the show to loud cheers, performing songs like 'Bunk Anthem', 'Prom Queen' and 'Revolusi'. The boys ended their set with one of their more popular tunes, 'Situasi'.

If the crowd was more than receptive during Bunkface's performance, they went completely wild when it was time for Wonder Girls - the first Korean artistes to make it onto the US Billboard Hot 100 chart - to take the stage.  Busting out of their "cages" as the curtains went up, the performed a medley of 'I Wanna' and 'Goodbye', 'So Hot' and 'Tell Me'. They also wowed the crowd with rock remixes of several of their tracks that included current hits 'Two Different Tears' and 'Nobody'.

And just as they seemed to have finished all their numbers, the Wonder Girls returned to the stage clad in their gold sequined gowns to reprise their biggest hit, 'Nobody'.

This was followed by a lengthy intermission; the rain had caused several technical difficulties.
The crowd's wait, however, was rewarded with the rocking glam-rock sounds of Tokio Hotel, complete with motorcycle as a prop, Bill Kaulitz's crazy outfits and a superb light show.

One of the biggest rock acts to come out of Germany in decades, Tokio Hotel displayed to the Asian crowd once again why they are the ones taking the music industry by a storm. The multi-award winning band performed crowd favorites 'Automatic', 'Humanoid', and 'World Behind My Wall'.

They ended the longest set of the night with an inspiring performance of 'Monsoon', 'Forever Now' and an acoustic rendition of 'Zoom Into Me' by the Kaulitz brothers.

As the rain subsided, the striking of the midnight clock signaled the appearance of yet another chart-topping artiste - Katy Perry.

In true Katy Perry fashion, the star made her Malaysian debut, disembarking from a giant "banana-split" as she rocked out to her current smash hit, 'California Gurls'. Dressed in a jeweled pink unitard and tutu, Katy transformed the stage into candy-land as she donned a guitar and delivered hits like 'One of the Boys', 'Waking Up In Vegas' and 'I Kissed A Girl'.

Katy also performed a heartfelt rendition of 'Thinking Of You' and even allowed the crowd to sample her yet-to-be-released song, 'Peacock' which was much in keeping to Katy's current style of songs.
For those who were present, this will certainly be a night to remember. The energy was high. The music was great. The performances were impeccable.

The only downside to MTV World Stage was that the flow of the concert was somewhat disrupted due to long waiting periods in between acts. Then again, that did not stop the crowd from having a good time, and even despite the downpour.

Overall MTV World Stage in Malaysia - to be broadcasted to a total of 154 countries worldwide via MTV's global network - was a roaring, rocking success of a show!
